Madoka Urhausen 高田 円
Tai Chi Instructor, Ph.D., LMFT, ATR-BC, REAT
Madoka, affectionately known as “Mado,” is a trauma-informed expressive arts therapist and Tai Chi practitioner with nearly 40 years of personal practice. A native of Tokyo who has made Southern California her home, she brings over 25 years of experience supporting individuals and communities through mental health, education, and wellness. Throughout her career, she has taught, mentored, and collaborated with universities and professional training programs in counseling and art therapy. Her work is grounded in a deep belief in the connection between mind, body, and creative expression as pathways to growth and well-being. By integrating her therapeutic background with her lifelong Tai Chi practice, Mado offers an approach that promotes balance, resilience, and self-awareness. She is passionate about helping people enhance their quality of life and engage more fully in their personal, professional, and community lives.
Mado works with individuals who may feel disconnected from their bodies due to trauma, chronic pain, medically unexplained symptoms (MUS), dissociative adaptations, or other challenging life experiences. Through gentle Tai Chi and Qigong practices, she supports participants in cultivating greater body awareness, restoring trust in themselves, and fostering overall well-being. She also enjoys supporting healthcare professionals, therapists, educators, and other caregivers in building resilience, preventing burnout, and maintaining sustainable self-care practices.
